Liberty stood out to us as a word that would be commonly used in the Crisis. As we looked through the tools, we were still convinced that “liberty” would be largely presented throughout the magazine. However, looking at the word map that most frequently used the word liberty, we were disappointed. The biggest and most frequently used word was “colored” which was even further from liberty. In fact, liberty was one of the smallest and least words used on the word map.
One major disadvantage to only using the graphical primitives, is that we could not visualize the structure of the writings. It was important to us to be able to see the piece “A sonnet to Negro Soldiers” the way it was laid out on the page. There was a serious advantage though. When searching and viewing a single word in the word graph, it gave us an easy way to see the use of our term.
