Lab: Distant Reading The Crisis Jessics, Kyle, and Andrew

When entered into the voyant tools website the terms “segregation” and “riots” had an interesting trend that would be hard to see if we were not shown the graph. While riots unsurprisingly peaks around the time of the race riots, the word segregation has a major downturn at the same that the use of riots picks up. The ability to see these graphs side by side shows an interesting correlation and possibly an interesting view into the mindset of the time. However only seeing the graphs can distance the reader from the message being conveyed, since The Crisis looses a lot of its impact if not seen as a cohesive hole.
