A Comrade to Comrades is a call to action to black soldiers to fight against Germany. Young says that the “German Military Machine” is the “dire undoing of dark races.” He goes so far as to say that it’s worse than the slavery from the antebellum days “because we have reached the heights of a half century of well-being and awakening.”
The language used in this entry is militant like The New Freewoman but it’s more uplifting and encouraging than the ire-inciting Freewoman. Young says “We must and will win! Cheer and hearten each other!” This kind of language is uplifting and seeks to refresh the morale of brothers overcoming a goal, in this case the oppression of Germany.
